Dragon Con Update...

Amelia: rolling tight in black and white
Hello my friends!
It's been far too long once again, but in all fairness, there hasn't been much to report until now. Sigh... so first thing is first. I will not be attending Dragon Con after all. "Why?!" you scream... The bottom line is that I want to make the best impression possible and I'm not able to do that. Between the financial burden, not to mention that I haven't even come close to finishing a second book, and on top of it all I'm at a bit of a transitional place in my artwork, now just ins't the right time to strike. I've also begun to doubt whether Dragon Con would really be the best venue for me to make my first foray into con life. I have a strong feeling that I would be more successful both personally and professionally at a smaller con to start. I would hate to myself get swallowed up being unprepared for such a huge venue. So, while it is a little bit of a let down, I think that ultimately it's the smartest decision for me at the moment.

Now on to happier things. I've recently returned to black and white as evidenced by this week's drawing. Also, I'm currently writing a new story for our heroine that's sure to be far more exciting and deep than anything I've done before. So not to worry folks, there's still plenty of great Air-Heart moments on the horizon! Bear with me, I will deliver.

5 Page Preview - Bonds Of War

Hey people! As promised it's the famous and long-awaited five page preview. You'll notice that this time around I'm presenting the pages unshaded and without words. I wanted to avoid giving away the full impact of the final finished product, and keep the story under wraps. Also, the linework rarely gets to be enjoyed on it's own, so I thought I'd give it a chance to speak for itself.

It's been fun working on finished art again. It's really been a pleasure seeing how these pages are turning out given how long ago it was that I did the fist book. I've come a long way since then, and I think it really shows, but once again, I'll let the art do the talking. Share your thoughts below, more to come soon!

Air-Heart Adventures

So...
You might be wondering what's going on with Air-Heart these days. Am I working on new stuff? Are any pages getting done? The answer is a super complicated yes and no that we don't need to get into here. Suffice it to say it's been a bit of a roller coaster ride over the past year and a half getting this second book going.

From the very beginning I've struggled with the nature of the Air-Heart series; black and white? grey? graphic novel? short story? It's been a complex series of ups and downs. To get to the point, most recently I had been planing (and by planing I mean completely written and then finished 3 pages) a full length graphic novel as the next entry in my Air-Heart series. As much as I would love to push forward with that idea, it's becoming clear that with my current schedule (I have commissions now!) it's just not likely that I'd ever be able to manage to put together a finished quality product in that form at the moment. All of that to say that I'm going back to where I started. The next book will be a multi-story book featuring adventures in Amelia's world. I still want to push myself to explore more complex characterization and plot as I can, but it's important to note that while I may be a semi-seasoned artist, I'm really still just a wannabe writer, I've still got a lot to learn.

Coming to a close, I'm back in the driver's seat. There will be new Air-Heart on the way just as soon as I can finish it. I really want to get to a place where I can put together a book each year. I want to develop a following of some sort, and you can't do that if you disappear every couple of years toiling away in the labs of your mind with nothing to show for it! Okay, enough talk. Drawing time...
