So, just a quick post this morning to let you all know that I'll be posting this Friday like the good old days. I have a bunch of things saved up to put here on the blog, so look out! Also, Dragon Con is coming up this weekend! So be expecting a special Dragon Con post complete with photos.

To give you a small update, I haven't been making the best progress on the shading as I've been preparing for a move! I'm not moving very far, but to a new apartment. So I've been very busy making all of the necessary preparations. Not to make excuses, however, I'm taking some steps to ensure that I continue to do my work. I've started a notebook where I'm going to log the time that I work on my pages so that I can keep an eye on how much, or how little, time I'm putting in. My hope is that that will keep me on top of my game. That's all for now, catch you on Friday!

Fathoms - Preview

Pages 1-3 of Fathoms, Amelia's next big adventure. (Click for larger view)
Here it is! Come one, come all to the official Fathoms preview. I'm just one week into the shading process and making good progress. These set of pages mark a new step in my shading "language", that is, I've already established how to shade night scenes in my gray-shading style, but the underwater scenes are a new step. There's a pretty simple process involved, but it's still a new challenge for me.

I'm really happy with the way that the storm looks, the lightning really pops and the clouds look dark and ominous. Also, the shading on the surface of the water was a new one for me as well, but I'm pretty happy with the end result.

It's good to finally be shading once again, as this chapter has taken the longest of any since I began working on Air-Heart. That's mostly due to external factors, but a few internal ones as well. It's pretty easy to get lazy when you're feeling tired, and I've really had to push myself to get the inks done on this one. I'm very excited to finish the shading, however, because I'm looking forward to getting started on the next chapter.

Speaking of the next chapter, I have the whole story planned out and most of the early concept work out of the way as well. I'll be sharing that with you fairly soon. I'm very excited about the direction of the next story. I'm still not quite sure how long it will be though as I haven't started to do the thumbnails yet. If it comes out anything like I'm imagining, then it might wind up being closer to 35 pages instead of my usual 25 or so.

Well, that's all for now. Tune in next week for another post. I'm going to get back to posting once a week again on Fridays, so look forward to a second post this Friday. I'm not telling you what I'm posting, so you'll just have to come on over and check it out. Until then people!

Cover Me!

So here it is!
Finally at long last, the cover to the first chapter of the second book. While I'm at at it I'll also mention that I totally finished inking the last page as well. So now it's down to shades and lettering. With any luck I'll be able to pump out the finished story soon so that I can move on to the next one.

As predicted it took me a while to nail down the final cover idea, but I'm pretty happy with the result. I also found out quickly that the monster wasn't going to work in my darker shaded color, as it killed all of the detail of his cool exoskeletal form.

Well, that's pretty much the scoop for right now. As I get the pages shaded and lettered, I'll put together the traditional preview I've been doing for a while now. Stay tuned!
Hey people!
Sorry it's been a while since I last posted. I've been super busy with concerts at work. To touch base - I'm still working on that last page. There are a lot of backgrounds and it's taking me a bit longer than I thought. I have a day off coming soon, so that's when I aim to have it finished and then nail that pesky cover.

If I've learned anything while blogging, it's that you never know what's going to get in the way when you're try to do your work. That said, my goal is to have the last page finished, and a good head start on the cover out of the way by Tuesday. Either way I do have some fresh images to put up on the site the next time I post, so you can at least look forward to some new artwork next time around. That's it for now, stay tuned!
